Denver—Colorado’s Most Important City

Denver is the capital of Colorado and one of the most important cities in the United States thanks to the Denver International Airport as well as its business and cultural significance.  First founded in 1858, Denver is now a major city pivotal to tourism and rich in public attractions.  What kind of events can you enjoy in Denver? 

If you want to spend your Denver vacation outdoors then there are plenty of sights to see for fun and for educational value.  Six Flags Elitch Gardens gives you plenty of amusement, including rides and live shows, as does Waterworld, which is one of the largest water parks in America marketed towards families.  On the educational side you have the Butterfly Pavilion, which combines science with hands-on interactive fun.  Washington Park features beautiful scenery including lakes and gardens as well as a few fields and courts for sports activities.

If you love sports then don’t miss the opportunity to cheer on your favorite Colorado team.  Colorado Avalanche plays at the Pepsi Center while the Colorado Rockies make their home in the Coors Field.  The Denver Broncos play at Invesco Field at Mile High and the Denver Nuggets share the Pepsi Center, representing Colorado’s best in the NBA.

Culturally speaking, Denver has a lot of art to give.  Locals and tourists look forward to festival events such as May Cinco de Mayo, the Tesoro Indian Market and Powwow and the Downtown Denver Festival of the Arts.  Other festivals of interest include the July Cherry Creek Arts Festival, the August Rocky Mountain Balloon Festival and September’s A Taste of Colorado, in which 40 restaurants set up booths in Civic Center Park.  Hey, what’s a trip to Denver without some good beer?  Denver hosts the Great American Beer Festival in the autumn, which is celebrated with a three day event that judges the best micro, medium and mega brews in the state.  Denver loves its music and so you can expect to hear some great acts at venues like 15th St. Tavern, the Climax Lounge, Gothic Theater, Lion’s Lair and the Red Rocks Amphiteatre.  

No wonder Denver is the capitol city of Colorado, as it combines all of Colorado’s best features as a vacation state into one urban meets rustic environment.  You cannot visit Colorado without touring the famous city of Denver, one of the U.S.’s most important locations and one of the favorite destinations among new tourists.
