Estes Park – Estes Park, Colorado (CO)
Estes Park offers you the beauty of the mountains with the cultural visits that you will want to take to change the pace of your outdoor adventures.
The village sits at 7,500 feet where you will be welcomed with festivals, cultural experiences, downtown gardens, river walks and plenty of places to browse while you are in town.
Here you can take a carriage ride through the park and witness nature in a manner you probably haven’t experienced before.
At the Aspen Lodge you can take a sleigh ride for 20 minutes of a totally different type of experience. The horses pulling the sleigh through the snow, the crisp air nipping your nose and the beauty of the mountains will make this one of your favorite activities to tell your friends and neighbors about doing.
Want to do something a little more adventurous? How about going white water rafting on the Cache la Poudre River? Here you will be treated to the level of experience you have, if you are a beginner they will take you on the less hazardous route, experienced? Then hang on because you will get the ride of a lifetime.
You may want to spend some time at the MacGregor Ranch. This homestead ranch was founded in 1873 and left in trust by the MacGregor’s granddaughter to educate and enterain people from all over the world. This is a working cattle ranch and youth education center in the beautiful Black Canyon Creek area of Estes Park. The ranch buildings, house museum and family artifacts tell a rich story of Colorado homesteading history and ranching lifestyles of the late 19th century.
Museum is open to the public June – July – August Tuesday through Friday 10 am to 4 pm
Self guided tours of the museum, milk house, smokehouse, blacksmith shop and horse-drawn machinery exhibits.
Estes Park also offers a great place to snowmobile, toboggan, go snowshoeing, cross country skiing and ice skating. These winter activities are just part of the charm of the area.
In the summer you can fish, boat, ride horse, go to concerts or go rock climbing. The hiking in the area is excellent and the memories will last for years.
Estes Park’s beautiful dry climate attracts thousands of visitors each summer from hot, humid climates at lower elevations. The low humidity makes the hot summer days (average high in July is about 85°) seem cool to those from other areas of the country. Cool evenings (it can dip to under 50° at night in July) are extremely comfortable. Mornings are almost unfailingly sunny, winter and summer, and the frequent summertime afternoon showers usually dissipate in time for the nightly display of stars in the sky, made even more spectacular by the lack of urban light and air pollution. Winters are surprisingly mild, with highs usually in the 40s and lows in the 20s. Snow seldom stays on the ground for more than a few days. The village of Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park are two of the most accessible mountain areas in the state of Colorado because there are no mountain passes to cross en route and because the highways are well maintained year-round.
