Step Back in Time at Buckskin Joe’s Frontier Town and Railway. Canon City, Colorado has a number of different attractions that visitors will enjoy. One of the most popular of these attractions is Buckskin Joe’s Frontier Town and Railway, created in 1958. A trip to the town will make you feel as though you have stepped back in time to the Old West, when gunslingers ruled the dusty streets.
When visitors come to Buckskin Joe’s Frontier Town and Railway, they begin their day by boarding the Royal Gorge Scenic Railway. The train takes passengers on a short ride to the frontier town. Along the way, visitors will be able to see the beautiful Royal Gorge and bridge.
The train is a great way to get to Buckskin Joe’s Frontier Town. The town is a recreation of a 1800s era Western town. All of the buildings are actually from the 1800s –found around the state, the buildings were disassembled and then brought to the original Buckskin Joe town and reassembled. The original town of Buckskin Joe got its name in 1859 from an eccentric man named Buckskin Joseph Higgenbottom.
Visitors to the town will be able to explore the buildings, watch as mock gunfights erupt in the street between lawmen and bandits. You can see comedic and dramatic gunfight shows, as well as a fake hanging of one of the bandits. Kids of all ages enjoy watching these mock gunfights.
Some of the buildings that you will be able to see include a general store, a bank, and a saloon. You will have a wonderful time exploring all of the wonderful nooks and crannies of the town.
