Pike’s Peaks – Manitou Springs, Colorado

 A visit to Colorado’s famous mountains
 
Of the many tourist attractions that this state has to offer, its mountains are the number one in the list of most visited places. Many vacationers are attracted by the scenic views that these mountains offer. With heights that range from its lowest peak of 13, 123 feet to the highest peak, which is Mt. Elbert that stands at 14, 400 feet. These snow capped mountains have the reputation of true winter wonderland.
 
Majority of the peaks in Colorado are over 14,000 feet that is why most climbers called these mountains as the 14’ers. There are around 54 of these impressive mountains. Many of these climbers traverse these mountains without any kind of protective and special gears, but it is always advisable to be cautious and safety is the prime concern.
 
One of the most visited and most fascinating mountain peak is the Pike’s Peaks, which stands at 14, 110 feet. This mountain is unique because it has the highest road in the United States and when you reach the top, you can buy souvenirs at a local store with a restaurant. You would surely enjoy the views, which are breath taking and well worth the journey. In addition, if you don’t want to drive yourself to the top, you can always use a scenic train ride that runs all the way to the top.

Aside from mountains you can also visit the Colorado Springs, which are located right next to Pike’s Peak. It offers a lot of wonderful sights such as the stunning red rock formations located at the Garden of the Gods.
 
Not far from the Colorado Springs is the Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center. This is a new museum located in the Woodland Park. It stands 20,000 square foot and showcases various dinosaur exhibits. The museum is also a working lab where vacationers can witness real people preparing and cleaning real dinosaur bones to be included in the exhibits.

Another great place for sightseeing is the Mesa Verde National Park, which is an Indian historic village built under an enormous rock ledge. This village has existed for centuries and was only abandoned in the 1,300 AD. The Indian adobe homes were perfectly preserved and you can even have a walk around the ruins.
 
The state is also the home of the world’s highest suspension bridge. It is located in Royal Gorge and it is more than 1,000 feet above the Arkansas River. You can either drive across the suspension bridge or just walk across it.

Recreational activities you can enjoy

The state is a great place to engage in whitewater rafting because of its many wild rivers. You have to make sure that you know what level of expertise you are in before you jump in your canoe or kayak for safety purposes. One of the most popular sites for whitewater rafting is the Arkansas River.
 
Do you want to satisfy your adventurous side? Then have a go with mountain biking, do bird watching, cast a line or even climb a mountain and hit the slope for a great skiing experience.
