Cottonwood Cellars/The Olathe Winery - Olathe, Colorado
This is a true traditional European-style family winery using the same equipment they use in Italy. The site of the winery is surrounded by the magnificent views of the San Juan Mountains, the Grand Mesa and the Uncompaghre Plateau. Just imagine yourself sitting here, drinking a wonderful glass of wine and enjoying looking at the stunning view!
The winery is run on a 52 acre farm in Olathe with 22 qacres planted in Vinifera grapes. They produce
Cabernet Sauvignon
Merlot
Pinot Noir
Lemberger
Chardonnay
Johannisberg Riesling
Gewurztraminer
The red wines are fermented in French and American oak barrels. The Chardonnay is fermented sur-lees in American oak barrels. These wines are barrel aged 1-2 years and then bottle aged at least one more year before release
Owners are Keith (the Winemaker) and Diana (Marketing) Read. The winery began operation in 1994. The first grape vines (5 acres) were planted in 1995 and has increased yearly to the current 22.5 acres.
