Delta Wine Country – Delta, Colorado
West Elks AVA in Delta Country is a major viticulture area in Colorado. Situated at the foot of the West Elk Mountains, the valleys and mesas of the region are known for producing some of Colorado’s bet White wines. Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris are recognized world wide as very nice wines.
The West Elks American Viticulture Area spreads through the counties of Delta and Montrose on the Western Slope of Colorado. Some of these vineyards are the highest elevations in North America. The high elevation and low humidity along with the cool nights help retain a high degree of acidity in the grapes as they ripen.
Although the growing season is short in this area for reds, Pinot Noir has found a home on the mesa slopes too. Merlots can be found here too.
Vacationers to this area will enjoy some of the best wines in Colorado as they view the stunning sights of the mountains and mesa scenery. There are wineries tucked away on the mesa slopes giving a feeling serine peace and beauty. What a fabulous way to enjoy good wine.
This area of the Delta/Montrose wine region is small enough that you can make the tour of the wineries in a day, a great way to take that off the normal route through Colorado trip.

Alfred Eames Cellars by Puesta del Sol Vineyards
