Cherry Creek State Recreation Area – Aurora, Colorado

Cherry Creek State Recreation Area – Aurora, Colorado

There are some parks that offer more than others and Cherry Creek is one of them.  Not only can you enjoy camping, nature walks and hiking but you can watch (or participate with) model airplane flying, horseback riding and a family shooting range.

There are 12 miles of paved trails and a total of 35 miles of multi-use trails for biking.  The multi-use trails are also used by hikers and horseback riders so bikers make sure you yield to them.

The eco-system in the park attracts raptor species such as the bald eagle, red-tailed hawk, northern harrier and ferruginous hawk along with other waterfowl and shorebirds for those that enjoy birding.

The lake at the park is open for boating.  They insist you stay at least 60 feet away from the front of the Tower structure.  There are boat launches on both the east and west sides of the reservoir.  The marina offers full concessions including boating lessons and bait.

There are 125 campsites at the park for your enjoyment.  There are full hook-up sites reservable in Abilene Loop and basic ten sites reservable in Cottonwood Grove Loop.

When snow hits the area you can go cross-country skiing which is a fabulous way to see nature in the quiet pristine winter wonderland.

The model airplane flying is located on the west side of the park, the airfield provides asphalt runways and frequency posts.

Other winter activities at the park are sledding, snowshoeing, and snowtubing.
